Registration Rules
- Procedure: Registration is governed by laws and the registry's Regulations; the process can be more involved than for some other ccTLDs.
- Eligibility / local connection:
- The registry's rules require registrants to meet the Regulations' requirements and generally demonstrate a connection to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- Wikipedia notes that domain registration is free but a local presence is needed (e.g., a company with a registered name or trademark in Bosnia and Herzegovina may register an eponymous .ba domain).
- ICANNWiki/registrar guidance indicates companies from abroad may register, providing a valid VAT number (for EU companies) or company registration number (for non-EU companies); individuals must provide proof of local presence.
- Name content and decency: Domain names must not be expressions of racial, religious, or national intolerance or hate speech and must comply with standards of decency and morality per registry rules.
- Structure: Registrations are permitted directly at the second level or at the third level beneath the standardized second-level labels listed above. Rules for SLD registrations are fairly well enforced.
- Characters and length (per registry rules):
- Allowed characters: the 26 letters of the English alphabet (case-insensitive), digits 0–9, and the hyphen (-).
- Length: generally between 3 and 63 characters. Exceptions for .edu.ba, .org.ba, .net.ba, .gov.ba, and .mil.ba allow names of at least 2 characters and up to 63 characters.
- Hyphen rules: the first and last character cannot be a hyphen, and two hyphens cannot appear consecutively.
- Documentation: For registrations under certain SLDs (.edu.ba, .gov.ba, .mil.ba, .net.ba, .org.ba) a copy of a notification of activity classification or other proof that the legal entity meets the General Terms is required.
