- July 1998: Operation was handed to nic.fo as recognition that .fo is Faroese.
- Delegation/redelegation events:
- IANA approved establishment/delegation actions during 1997–1998.
- In December 2003, UNI2 requested a change to delegate regulation to the FO Council; final approval and redelegation steps were completed in 2004–2005, with the ICANN Board authorizing completion on 15 November 2004.

Registration Rules
- General restriction: Registrations are expected to be based on the registrant's trademark or legal name.
