Overview
- .mc is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Principality of Monaco.
- Introduced on 20 January 1995 and managed by Monaco's government registry (listed as Direction des Telecommunications and referenced also as Direction des Plateformes et des Ressources Numériques).
- Registrations are made directly at the second level and are intended for entities connected with Monaco.
History
- 20 January 1995: .mc was introduced/implemented as Monaco's ccTLD.
- 28 January 2022: A new domain name charter was published; several second-level domains (SLDs) were retired for future registrations. Retired SLDs include:
- .tm.mc
- .asso.mc
- .dentiste.mc
- .consul.mc
- .experts-comptables.mc
- .comptables-agrees.mc
- .architectes.mc
- .avocat.mc
- .notaire.mc
Existing registrations in those zones continue to function.
- 1 March 2022: The registry introduced a registrar model; since that date domains can only be registered through accredited registrars.

Registration Rules
- Eligibility and documentation requirements:
- Companies: domain must exactly match the company name or a brand name indicated in Monaco's Trade & Industry Register. Applicants must provide a transcript of the company’s entry (dated within the last three months) showing the match.
- Self-employed professionals: domain must match the registered business name; a professional certificate must be provided.
- Non-profit associations or other registered bodies: domain must match the exact name in the Articles of Association; provide a copy of the Journal de Monaco publication evidencing registration.
- Trademark holders: domain must match the mark as shown on the trademark registration certificate; a copy of the trademark certificate registered/protected in Monaco must be provided.
- Applicants must respect public order, decency, constitutional and legal rights, and intellectual property and personality rights.
- Naming and syntax rules:
- Allowed characters: letters a–z (ASCII), digits 0–9, and the hyphen ("-").
- Length: minimum 3 characters, maximum 63 characters.
- A domain may not begin or end with a hyphen.
- A hyphen may not appear in the 3rd or 4th position.
- Hyphens and full stops may be omitted from the domain name on the applicant's form where permitted by rules.
- Structure and policy:
- Registrations are at the second level (example: example.mc).
- Dispute policy: disputes are handled between the parties involved; the registry remains neutral and does not adjudicate disputes.
- Since 1 March 2022, registrations must be made through accredited registrars.
