Country-code top-level domains
Overview
.mt is the country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Malta. It was delegated in December 1992 and is managed by NIC Malta (Network Information Centre Malta). The namespace is intended for entities connected with Malta and is widely used within the country. Registrations have traditionally been taken at the third level beneath specific second-level domains; since 1 December 2017 direct registrations at the second level (for example, myname.mt) are permitted.

Eligibility and requirements:
- To register directly under .mt, the registrant must be the legal entity (a natural person or a legal person recognised under law) that will be using the domain name. It is not necessary for the registrant to be established in Malta.
- To register under certain second-level domains, the prospective registrant must declare the right to use the registered label (the domain label) as a full trade mark or a trade/business name in accordance with Maltese law.

- Registrants must not infringe intellectual property rights or other third-party rights and must not use the domain for unlawful purposes.
- The following names are prohibited from registration at any level: mil, mt, co, myname, malta, registry, dnssec, dns, ns, whois, domain, domains.

- Since 1 December 2017, direct second-level registrations under .mt (e.g., example.mt) are permitted.
