Overview
.paris is a geographic top-level domain (GeoTLD) dedicated to the city of Paris, France. Introduced as part of ICANN's New gTLD Program, it provides a dedicated online namespace for Parisian residents, institutions, businesses, culture and tourism.
History
- First proposed and developed in 2007 by Paris stakeholders and ICANN community members.
- The City of Paris announced its intention to apply in June 2008.

- Managed by the Ville de Paris (City of Paris) with registry services provided via an AFNIC–CORE partnership.
- Direct second-level registrations are allowed.

Eligibility and verification (Community Priority / registration requirements):
- Registrants must prove a direct or indirect link with the Paris region.
- Acceptable proofs include residence or second home in Paris, an office/place of business, a branch or permanent establishment in the City of Paris, a contact listed in Whois with a Paris domicile, or other supporting documentation (for example employer certification or a birth certificate).

Allocation phases and restrictions:
- Parisian place names (streets, squares, etc.) were reserved for the relevant authorities.
- A trademark/rights-holders priority (sunrise) period ran from September to November 2014 for owners of trademarks, company names and names of French municipalities.
- Before general availability, registrations were possible at premium rates or via auction when multiple applicants sought the same name.
- Since 2 December 2014, remaining names have been allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
