Country-code top-level domains
Overview
- .ps is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) assigned to the State of Palestine.
- It is administered by the Palestinian National Internet Naming Authority (PNINA) and has been used for Palestinian entities and general registrations.
- The Internationalized ccTLD in Arabic is .فلسطين (Punycode: .xn--ygbi2ammx).
History
- Delegation: .ps was introduced and delegated in March 2000 (IANA delegation report dated 22 March 2000).
- Redelegation: IANA reports include a redelegation action in 2004.
- Early timeline (as reported): an initial application was made in 1997 and denied; after lobbying and a 1999 UN decision related to Palestine, .ps was listed in ISO 3166 and assigned in 2000. On 23 March 2000 .ps became operational and gov.ps was the first domain to go live.
- PNINA (Palestinian National Internet Naming Authority) was created in early 2003 with participation from academia, private sector, ISOC, legal institutions, ISPs, telecom and government ministries.
- Registry and sponsorship: PNINA is the registry/administrator; PITA is listed as a sponsor in registry records. Registrations are processed by certified registrars.
- As reported (May 2025), the official registry website (nic.ps) was down.
