Overview
.ug is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) assigned to Uganda. Introduced on 8 March 1995, it is intended for entities connected with Uganda and is managed by Uganda Online Ltd (registry.co.ug). Registrations may be made directly at the second level or at the third level beneath a set of defined second-level labels. The zone supports DNSSEC and applies the UDRP for dispute resolution.

Registration Rules
- Eligibility / restrictions: Public sources indicate there are no special nationality or residency restrictions on who may register .ug domains (registrations are generally open). .go.ug is reserved for government entities.
- Structure: Registrations permitted at the second level (example: example.ug) and at the third level beneath the designated second-level labels (example.co.ug).
- Characters and length:
- .ug is an ASCII ccTLD identifier.
- For domains directly under .ug, a minimum of two characters is required.
- Policy and governance: The registry publishes terms and conditions on its website (registry.co.ug) and applies UDRP for dispute resolution.
Notable Cases or Examples
- 2014 administration dispute: Members of the Ugandan Parliament raised concerns and sought an investigation after reports that a private firm (Infinity Computers and Communication Company, formerly Computer Frontiers / i3c) owned Uganda's top-level domain. MPs questioned the circumstances of private ownership and asked the ICT minister for explanations; they also proposed contacting the registrar of companies to obtain proprietor details.
